Seiko Watch HistoryIn the world of innovation and vision, the Seiko watch leads the way. In the 123 years of its existence the Seiko watch went from a small shop in Tokyo’s Ginza district to an internationally renowned watch that has been leading the industry. Seiko Watch dominating the Japanese marketFor over 20 years Seiko was dominating the Japanese market of clocks, starting with 1899 with the production of Seiko alarm clocks and in 1902 with the production of the Seiko table and musical clocks. By 1913 the 1st Japanese wristwatch was under production by the name of Seiko “Laurel” watch and by 1914 Seiko starts mass-producing their products to supply Asia and Europe. In 1924 the 1st Seiko wristwatch is made and so is history. By 1956 Seiko watches are already know for accuracy and craftsmanship with the production the 1st self-winding wristwatch made in Japan. Seiko watch becomes the official timer of the OlympicIn 1964 Seiko watch becomes the official timer of the Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo, an honor Seiko watches held 6 times for the Olympic games and 3 times for World Soccer Championships, where Seiko introduced the world’s 1st quarts chronometers. In 1968 Seiko introduced the worlds 1st Seiko quartz wall clock, followed by the worlds 1st Seiko quartz watch in 1969, same year that 1st Seiko watch was introduced in the US, called the Seiko Astron 35SQ, which was sold only in Tiffany & CO., had an 18KT gold cover, and had a time tolerance if plus/minus 3 seconds per month. In 1972 the 1st l adies quartz Seiko analogue watch, the O3SQ was introduced. In 1973 Seiko introduced the 1st LCD quartz display watch, in 1975 the 1st multi-function digital Seiko watch, and in 1976 1st Seiko quartz alarm clock. Ultra-accurate Twin Quartz Seiko watchIn 1978 Seiko released the worlds 1st ultra-accurate Twin Quartz watch with fewer the 5 seconds deviation per year, followed by the worlds 1st TV watch in 1982 and a Seiko watch with voice recording capability in 1983, and 1st wristwatch computer in 1984. The 1st Seiko wristwatch-computer appeared in the US in 1990 and in 1992 the 1st Seiko kinetic watch. The year of 1998 was a year of 1st’s for Seiko watches, the perpetual calendar watch, that was driven by the worlds 1st ultrasonic micro-motor, and 1st watch that was driven by body heat. Seiko watches out did themselves in 1999 when they introduced the Kinetic Auto Relay watch that automatically resumes to correct indication of current time even if it has been sitting stored away for up to 4 years. In the year 2000 Seiko introduced the worlds 1st Kinetic Chronograph. The future looks bright for the Seiko watch. What they will come up with in the future? Only time will tell |
